Adventurers in the Kingdom of Ignacium must discover what is causing undead to rise from the mountains and face the evil with unparalleled skill before the blight contaminates them all...
The Kingdom of Ignacium is a fictitious island nation with a history rich in magic, merfolk and dragons (oh my!). We are using the Adventurer Conqueror King System (ACKS) created by some awesome people I know, along with a few house rules that I developed. The world is my own, but the dungeons and modules are a mixture of randomly generated, store-bought and ones I created.
Read about the adventure as it happens here.
About the Region
The Kingdom of Ignacium is a great and ancient kingdom that has prospered
greatly from rich deposits of gemstones and gold laced throughout it's
many mountain ranges, vibrantly colored coral reefs and abundant pearl deposits. Due to the high demand of luxury goods
in the peaceful free Nations to the Southwest, Ignacium has a robust
and thriving economy.
To
the north the Rickten empire's vast borders sprawl ominously. The
current peace between Ignacium and Rickten is a complicated dance
negotiated a 100 years ago by King Tristan the Pious of Ignacium and Emporor
Flannigan the Bold of Rickten. This peace is aided greatly by the Rickten’s
continuous struggle against the barbarians that raid their northern
villages and their conflicts with Jutland.
Jutland
is a chaotic republic of pirates, bandits and free folk who are lead by
a clan captain. The clan captain changes so frequently that by the time
the Ignites hear of one, the next has most likely already come to
power.
History of the House of Azure
The
House of Azure has ruled Ignacium from the Koral Tower in Sapphire
Empress for a thousand years. It is said that the House of Azure is
descended from Azural, the link between humans and merfolk.
The
Great War of Sea and Lightening began when the creatures of Rourin, the
God of the Underdark, rebelled against the Sapphire Empress in order to
prove that death ruled life.
A great war raged for 15 years, as armies
of undead creatures crept up from the oceans and the mines.
On
the first day of the 15th year, King Azural spent 40 days and 40 nights
praying for the Sapphire Empress to end to the bloody war. On the 40th
day of his prayers the Sapphire Empress appeared as an ancient metallic
cobalt dragon, wrapped him in her great blue wings and carried him to
the Great Stone Tower, a tall rock in the middle of the Barrier islands.
When
the Azural arrived at the Tower, his wife Coroline and son Dennasus
were waiting for him, along with Solean, who appeared as a gold dragon,
and Crassen, who appeared as a silver dragon.
The
Empress then morphed in a beautiful maiden with long, shining navy
hair, large blue eyes and skin the color of sea foam. She cupped
Azural’s face in her hand and told him that she was prepared to equip
him with an army whose force would join his and together they would
defeat the scourge facing the world, but he must pay a terrible price.
Azural
fell to his knees and told her he was hers to command. She bent over,
kissed his lips, and as she did his legs morphed into a glistening,
scaly tail, his hair darkened to a deep navy and a dark blue mark of a
trident appeared on his forehead; the king of the merman was born.
The
Sapphire Empress then turned and lightly touched Dennasus’s shoulder and
a blue ribbon of hair flowing from their right temple and a navy
trident marked his forehead as well, linking them together by blood and
magic.
As the Empress finished, a thousand merfolk appeared from the shimmering
water, welcoming their promised leader.
Together the humans and merfolk
defeated the undead armies and Rourin retreated, swearing that one day
he would return.
For
the next 500 years, humans and merfolk worked together to bring peace
and prosperity to Igcacium. But then the Jutland pirates to the North
began hunting the merfolk for sport, and the men of Ignacium failed to
raise arms against the Jutlanders for fear of another terrible war. The
merfolk decided then to leave their brothers and retreat to the Dark
Sea, where they could live out their days in peace in the abyss of the
ocean where sailors dared not travel.
100 years ago, King Tristan the Pious had a prophetic vision of a day
when men and merfolk would once again unite against a common foe.
